I have been working in clay

for many years but a trip to Japan a few years ago opened my eyes to how functional ceramics can be more than utilitarian. During a tea ceremony, each participant is asked to hold and appreciate the cup before drinking the tea. We taste the tea and the beauty of the cup enhances the experience. This trip focused my desire to unite form and function in my work in clay.

In a world where so much is mass-produced I invite you to appreciate the uniqueness of a handmade clay object. Much of my work is created on the wheel but no two pieces are alike. My pieces are made of durable high-fire porcelain and stoneware.

I hope to create ceramic objects that are a delight to use as well as to look at.
